About Brendan Moorcroft
Welcome to Garland Hunting Safaris — your gateway to an authentic, personal, and ethically guided African hunting experience.
Founded and owned by Professional Hunter Brendan Moorcroft, Garland Hunting Safaris combines generations of Eastern Cape heritage with world-class fieldcraft, comfort, and hospitality.

Brendan’s story begins high in the Stormberg Mountains, where he grew up on the family farm at Klipkraal, perched atop Penhoek Pass — known as one of the coldest regions in South Africa.
His ancestors settled there in 1870, introducing Hereford cattle into the country, and it was among those rugged slopes that Brendan’s love for the outdoors was born. Hunting alongside his father from the age of six, he took his first springbuck as a young boy and never looked back.
Today, Brendan brings more than 15 years of experience as a Professional Hunter, a Dangerous Game License, and a career that includes nearly 90 buffalo hunted (83 to date) and multiple roles as PH on lion hunts.

His calm attitude, field knowledge, and dependable shot placement quickly earned him a reputation as one of the top PHs in the Eastern Cape, with repeat clients frequently requesting him by name and refusing to book unless he was available.
An avid outdoorsman, Brendan also represented Border Province in deep-sea bottom angling and game fishing for three years. His love for both the bush and the ocean continues to shape his unique approach to the outdoors.
He spent 2½ years in Tanzania working as a skipper and fishing guide, while apprenticing in hunting during the off-season. This blend of ocean and bush experience gives him a rare depth of understanding when it comes to wildlife, weather, terrain, and guiding.

Driven by a desire to offer true fair-chase hunting, genuine hospitality, and a safari experience rooted in integrity, Brendan founded Garland Hunting Safaris at the end of 2023.
He now uses his extensive network across the Eastern Cape to offer hunters access to the full suite of plains game species across diverse terrains and biomes — from thicket country and valley bushveld to mountain slopes and open plains.

Our Land & Environment
Garland Hunting Safaris operates in the heart of the Eastern Cape, a malaria-free region known for its ecological richness and sweeping scenery. The area spans valleys, plains, thicket, forest patches, and the beautiful Kubusi Valley, providing ideal habitat for game and unforgettable fair-chase experiences.
Our hunting areas also align with the Capstone Game Farming Enterprise, a forward-thinking wildlife and biodiversity initiative. Through this partnership, Brendan ensures that all hunts support sustainable wildlife management, habitat conservation, and responsible ethical practices. Guests hunting with Garland directly contribute to conservation and community upliftment in the region.
Shanna — The Heart of the Lodge
Supporting Brendon is Shanna Wells — soon to be Moorcroft, who manages the lodge with warmth, professionalism, and a natural passion for hospitality.
As a soon-to-be Dr. in Animal Nutrition, Shanna works with dairy, beef, sheep, and poultry farms across the region, bringing scientific knowledge and deep care to everything she does.
At the lodge, Shanna oversees catering and guest comfort, preparing a wide selection of beautiful venison dishes and traditional meals alongside the talented kitchen team.
From slow-cooked cuts to signature sides and fire-cooked favourites, she turns the day’s hunt into a memorable field-to-table experience. Guests consistently praise her attention to detail, warmth, and ability to make everyone feel at home.

Accommodation — Comfort in the Wild
The lodge sleeps up to 10 guests, each room offering twin beds (convertible in select rooms) and private bathrooms.
The lapa features an indoor braai and outdoor firepit — the perfect gathering place after a day in the bush.
A swimming pool and wide viewing deck offer space to relax, while giraffe, zebra, nyala, and other game often wander past the lodge itself.
Solar power ensures continuous electricity, even in remote settings.

Hunting With Us
Hunting is available year-round, with the best months running from March to October.
Most hunts use spot-and-stalk or stand hunting, with typical distances of 100–300 yards.
Brendan’s trained tracking dogs play a crucial role in recovering wounded game and maintaining ethical standards.
